How to handle unresponsive message brokers? (Kafka)

I am wondering how to get my micro services fault tolerant. Let’s say network or Kafka is down, how do you normally handle this? I don’t want the message that was supposed to be sent to be simply gone. And getting the systems “in sync” manually is a lot of work if handling 30+ micro services.
