Who We Are
Our website address is: https://codegurus.eu. CodeGurus is a tech news and learning portal operated in Estonia. You can contact us at gurus@codegurus.eu for questions regarding privacy. We do not currently maintain a physical office open to the public; however, we comply with Estonian business laws and will provide an address or registration number upon request if legally required.
What Personal Data We Collect and Why
By default, WordPress doesn’t collect personal data about visitors. We limit our data collection to what is necessary for the operation and security of the site:
Comments
If you leave a comment, WordPress collects the data shown in the comments form, your IP address and browser user‑agent string to aid spam detection. An anonymized hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to display your profile image. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Your comment, once approved, becomes public together with your profile picture.
Media
If you upload images, please avoid uploading files with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors may download and extract location data from images on the site.

Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles may include embedded videos, images or links to other sites. Embedded content behaves as if you visited those sites directly. These third‑party sites may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with embedded content. Please review their privacy policies before engaging with embedded content.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized usage statistics (such as page views, device type and session duration). This helps us understand how visitors use the site and improve it. Google Analytics may set cookies in your browser. We have configured IP anonymization to avoid storing full IP addresses.
You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt‑out Browser Add‑on or by using tools such as Privacy Badger. Google’s privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Advertisements
We display ads via Google AdSense and other networks. Ad providers may use cookies or web beacons to serve personalized ads based on your prior visits. These cookies allow them to build a profile of your interests across different sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting https://adssettings.google.com/ and adjusting your preferences. Google’s ad policy is available at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Security Logs
We run a WordPress security plugin that logs certain data to detect malicious activity, including IP addresses of visitors, usernames of logged‑in users and login attempt details. Security logs are retained for 31 days and are used solely to protect our site against attacks.
Aggregated News
CodeGurus aggregates news from various tech sources. We do not collect personal data from readers when they view our aggregated content. When you click a link to read a full article on a third‑party site, you are subject to that site’s privacy policy.
We only share data with third‑party services necessary for operating the site:
- Google (Analytics and AdSense): For analytics and ads. See “Analytics” and “Advertisements.”
- WordPress/Automattic (Gravatar): For comment avatars.
- Security Service (SolidWP or similar): We scan the site for malware and vulnerabilities. A QR code may be generated for two‑factor authentication; only your username is sent to the provider, and the data isn’t logged. The site is also part of a network of sites that protect against distributed brute‑force attacks. IP addresses of visitors attempting to log in may be shared with SolidWP. See their privacy policy for details.
We do not sell or rent personal data to third parties.
How Long We Retain Your Data
- Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely.
- Security logs are retained for 31 days.
- If you register on the site (if registration is enabled), we store the personal information you provide in your user profile indefinitely. Users can see, edit or delete their data (except the username) at any time. Administrators can also see and edit this information.
