Ask HN: How can you tell if your product is just bad?

I know you’re supposed to solve a need with your product, but even doing so doesn’t guarantee getting users. How can you tell if you aren’t effectively marketing/targeting the right audience (when marketing or with the product itself) or if the product is just bad itself?
